In ancient Rome, when a girl was born, she received a small bronze moon hung around her neck. They called it a lunula, and she wore it until her wedding day, when she offered it to the gods.

It was a Roman protective amulet, consecrated to the goddess Luna and Diana. Lunulae have been found in cities, military camps, and tombs throughout the Empire: it was one of the most common and beloved objects of Roman life.

The model for this piece comes from Augusta Raurica, a Roman settlement in present-day Switzerland, where an extraordinarily well-preserved example was found. It dates from between 100 and 200 AD.

Made of aged golden bronze, with ball-tipped ends and a ring with decorative grooves at the top. The aged finish, with darker tones in the reliefs, gives it an older and more worked appearance that distinguishes it from models with a smooth finish. A black leather strap is included.

A piece with almost two thousand years of history that can now be worn around the neck.
