Lucerne dots
This small globular lantern with handle is handcrafted with slip-coated ceramic. It is a slightly smaller size than usual so it has even more charm. It is decorated with dots on the top.
It is a reproduction of a Roman oil lamp from the 3rd century. The ancient Romans used skylights (Lucernae) in their daily lives to illuminate the different rooms of their Domus or houses and thus they could have artificial light. They were of different sizes and also of different materials. They also had several spikes or flames, to provide more light. To light them they used a cotton wick and dipped one end in olive oil and the other end was the one that came out of the spout and was lit to provide light.
This skylight can be used perfectly to provide light. It is recommended to put a ceramic plate underneath as a precaution and not leave it unattended once it is turned on.
