Early Christian Chi-Rho Roman Oil Lamp with Lamb – Historical Reproduction
Reproduction of a late Roman oil lamp (5th–6th century AD) based on an original manufactured in Asia Minor and currently preserved in the J. Paul Getty Museum (Los Angeles), with inventory number 83.AQ.377.272.
The piece features a central disc decorated with a Chrismon (Chi-Rho), accompanied by alpha and omega, alongside the figure of a lamb, iconography characteristic of early Christianity.
Made of ceramic with an aged finish, it reproduces the formal elements of the original model: a central filling hole, a slightly raised nozzle, and perimeter relief decoration. This type of oil lamp was used with oil and a wick for daily illumination.
Beyond its function, this piece reflects a moment of transition in the Roman world, where Christian symbols began to be integrated into everyday objects.
It is especially suitable for educational workshops, history classes, reenactment, or as a decorative object with real historical context.
