In Roman times, these wax tablets or tabula ceratae were essential to be able to make all kinds of notes. In addition to papyrus sheets, this was another of the most used writing media in ancient times, both for military and private notes, or even for students. The difference with the papyrus was that here short notes were made, which did not last over time.
To write, a stilus was used, which was like a kind of pencil. It could be metal, bronze, bone, wood, etc. Everything depended on the person's purchasing power. With the most pointed part of the style the writing was engraved on the wax and with the flat (or blunt) part the writing was flattened. This was called "tabula rasa."
This is a triptych version, that is, with three parts. They are joined at the back with a cord, which allows it to be closed like a book.
